Every year the Virginia Sexual and Domestic Violence Action Alliance hosts a Legislative Advocacy (“Lobby”) Day at the Virginia General Assembly. We use this as an opportunity to educate our members about legislative items being introduced and to have our collective voices heard by members of the General Assembly.

We start the day with a briefing where we provide you with talking points on bills of interest and packets of information to leave with your legislators. Then you go visit your legislators at the General Assembly. Register online. Register online.

• Recruit other supporters of sexual and domestic violence services from your community to come
• Encourage survivors to attend
• Register for Legislative Advocacy Day
• Call your legislators and schedule appointments (preferably between 9:00 am and 11:30) If you don’t know who your legislator is, go to: http://capwiz.com/yo-7/state/main/?lvl=L&azip=23230&state=VA&view=myofficials
• Call your legislator and invite him/her to join us at the Legislative Reception at the YWCA of Richmond from 6-8pm.
• Pull together agency materials to leave with your agency’s legislators
