The genesis of the Men of Vision campaign was rooted in our belief that until men are active participants in the work of ending sexual violence, we will never accomplish our stated mission of ending sexual assault in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
In accordance with that belief, we realized that there are already many men who are our partners in this work, and we looked for a way to both acknowledge their efforts and to create awareness of the work they do and the understanding they have of the role of men in ending violence against women. We wanted to make the point that these men have a new vision for what masculinity means, and that their leadership will help all Virginians to share in that vision.
In honoring these leaders, we hope that other men will feel empowered by their example to step out of the “bystander” role, and “step up to the plate” to become active participants along with the men of vision here with us today.
